Stolen Hearts Devlog | Post-Mortem

I used Devtober as a motivational tool to make sure I was being consistent about working on my 4 year game Stolen Hearts. I normally do work on the game around 15+ hours a week, but would take days off if I was feeling lazy. I began the month working on my boss levels for two of my characters and definitely got a lot done. I shared my work on Twitter everyday, and Devtober forced my to create more visual assets and share my work more. I got more followers on Twitter because of it, which I definitely don't usually do in my normal workflow. So I'm definitely glad I did that because now I see much more potential in sharing my game, which I have every intention of making my first commercial release. I found that, because I was obligated to share my work everyday, I would work on things that were visually interesting, as opposed to the gears inside the game.

There were definitely some days I didn't work on it because other plans/life got in the way, but I'm fine with that. Frankly, it's inevitable. and then around day 20 I started working on the devlog I posted below. It ended up taking up all my time, so I stopped working on the game for the last 10 days or so, unless you consider it promotional content. Which it is, but it didn't get that much traction, so I was probably better off just continuing progress on Stolen Hearts itself.

I did enjoy the experience and felt more like I was working alongside other aspiring game devs. I think I'll continue with Devember to force myself to continue to share my work more actively.

If you're interested this was the devlog that I made showing off some of the work I was doing during Devtober.
