Didn't make my way past the Sudwala note, but had a decent time doing the research up to that point. Nice work pulling in that Carmen Sandiego vibe.
Edit: Looks like I was misled by a bad travel site on what airports were nearby, they didn't even list that particular city as having one. Naive me just kept trying basically everything else in the area.

I think perhaps I should have done more research on air travel to Sudwala, but was rushing to meet the deadline. You’re not the only one who got stuck on that one. When I looked at the map real quick it looked like Pretoria was the closest large airport, but it looks like Johannesburg is just as close and a bigger international airport. I included an easter egg at Athens that if you “ex booth”, you notice a clerk who you can “ask about Melissani” and they’ll tell you to fly to Kefalonia. Probably should have added more of those, but ran out of time.

Glad you liked the CSD vibe! I loved playing that game when it came out. I think we got a free version when my dad bought some other software. the Gaelic name Naomh Seumas is intended to be a translation of SanDiego.

Did you catch the other early adventure game reference?

I love caves and I loved learning about some more.  I managed to get to message for Sudwala before getting stuck.

Thank you for for the feedback! Glad to here you have enjoyed my game so far .

From what others are saying also, it appears I should give more clues about which airports to fly to.

The closest major airport to Sudwala is Pretoria.

A little hard to play, but that's the nature of text adventures. Any thoughts on including a guide so players like me have a chance at experiencing the full game even if we're not particularly good at it?

I should do that. One big hint is that all the clues can be plugged into Google Translate. They should give accurate translations back into English.

The other key is to determine which city you should fly to next based on the language/message of each clue.

More generally, as with most text adventures itt good to ‘look at’ (or ‘ex’, short for examine) things mentioned in the description of a place.

Did you find the first clue?

Yup! I actually did use google translate. But once I found the boat cave and got the second message, I tried typing in everything I could but still couldn't figure out where to go. Was there a proper "travel" command I should have been using to fly? I resorted to using north south east and west because I didn't know how to type the right travel command, and those seemed to work for a bit.

It appears I should give more clues about which airports to ‘fly to’ next.

I have that set up in Athens. If you ask the clerk at the information booth about Melissani they will tell you to fly to Kefalonia. I wasn’t sure if people would need that for the others, but other people are asking too, so I obviously should.

The closest airport to Waitomo is Auckland.

Ah! Yeah, I didn't realize I could fly to different airports from the central location. Should have thought of that. I'll try it again with that knowledge.
