Hi! What kind of DOS games does the world need more of? Is there a particular genre that's lacking, some theme barely scratched, yet are still distinctly DOS like? I don't have a current DOS project and would like some inspiration!

And no, I won't make an FMV game

Sigh, you knew I would read this.

Aside from adventure games, which I think would maybe be a little ambitious (would love another game like Legend's Gateway or Sierra's Manhunter), I think some cool things would be a game that uses the weird graphical style Ecstatica had, or maybe FPS RPG like Shadowcaster?

I'm working on a Llamasoft inspired thing for this jam and hoping to do an Apogee-style platformer for a later one.

Okay, I’ve got several ideas that didn’t get off the ground yet, and you can see a couple of them on my Creator’s page. Ranger is a remake of DOS Airborne Ranger game, a lot like the original Metal Gear game for the, I think it was, MSX. Sleuth was a super simple DOS game that desperately needs remakes of any shape or kind. I’m aiming really high with these two, way too high for a game jam (I learned the hard way). Plus, I’ve been stalled by my novel… Anyway, feel free to do either idea, the world has room for two of each!

I’m just gonna do some kind of pixelart game and try to make it run on DOS, perhaps using https://github.com/rx/lovedos or the Vanilla Lua at archive.org or else with FreePascal’s DOS cross-compiler.

Additionally, there is a mario-like set of tiles on itch called 1985 (or 1984) and it would be great for a DOS-type game.

And, you can never go wrong with a vertical SHMUP, that’s my philosophy! :D
