(Full disclosure: I haven’t figured out how to unjam the doors yet, but I’m prepared to believe it’s pretty cool.)
I am always prepared to love an explore-a-haunted-house game. This one is nicely executed; as someone who has lost the habit of keeping a notebook handy when playing games, I appreciated the touch of the notebook with your map and quests in it. The descriptions are evocative, the creator has anticipated a lot of the actions a player might take, and the puzzles - at least, the ones I’ve managed to solve - make logical sense and don’t rely on guess-the-verb.
This morning I spent a good chunk of my bus ride to the office trying to think of ways to unjam the door. None of my ideas worked, but it’s fun to be that pulled into a game. Hopefully walkthrough after jam is over!
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! A walkthrough is definitely in the works for the post-comp version; for now, there are hints if it crosses the line from the fun kind of stuck into the annoying kind of stuck.
I did need to hit that hints document a couple of times - thanks! Terrific endgame.
Very nice, I too was surprised that this was made in under four hours. I especially liked the way you had to deal with the blocked doors. I do have a minor complaint, in that having to type the direction of the door was annoying to do for the entire length.
Very fair point! I figured it would be more intuitive than giving the doors all different colors or adjectives or something—what would you find easiest to refer to them?
I was thinking in terms of having as short a repeated amount of typing as possible, I.E., whenever possible use a short word so you don't have to type open so-and-so door but rather so door, or so...but I just went back to check and you can just open or close a door by typing open e or whatever...so I guess I don't have any complaints then. :)
I haven't quite figured everything out yet, but I really enjoyed this game...and I would've never imagined it only took four hours to make! Seriously impressive.
