How newcomer friendly is GB Studio?

Hey! I have never created a gb game before. With nine days on the clock before the jam starts, i wanted to know if there is enough time to learn this little piece of software, GB Studio, and not having to deal with little bugs that can be solved by coding in gameboy native language. I have experience with plenty of editors, RPG Maker, godot, as well as many other not game related. Messing around, it seems pretty simple, and similar to rpg maker to some extent. Are there any bugs, things to note, things to not do etc. that you guys have figured out, and that are not mentioned in the documentation?  Thank you in advance!

GB Studio works pretty well in my experience, as we currently are at version 3.1 there shouldn't be any major bugs.
You'd have to get familiar with the hardware limitations of the Game Boy though. Such as sprite limit and things like that. (But it's all in the docs.)

If you have any specific questions related to GB Studio, the GB Studio Discord is a really helpful place to go! :)

Cool! I read the documentation, it is pretty short.  Thank you! I will start experimenting with a couple of ideas, see how things work. None of that will be included in my jam submission though!

As the use of assets is allowed, it would also be ok, if you build something like a framework and test things before the jam starts, and work based on that. But you must tell in the Game description for not being disqualified.
Has to fit the theme, though. :)

It's not at all a "really helpful place", their mods are abusive and they ban anyone who dares to ask too many questions (and I'm not the only one who noticed this).

It is a really helpful place. And I'm answering questions in #audio-help all the time.
