Cool concept, I think it has a lot of potential! (I don't have much feedback to add that hasn't already been said, unfortunately)
I'm curious how you did the art, were the comic panels drawn high res and then scaled down?
hi thank you! Yes I made the panels comic book page size but to fit into a gameboy had to scale down like you rightly stated. It was alot of work since gb has limit of pixels and takes hours to get right, so pursuing this idea I think I'll go with a larger screen game engine, but gb was the platform to help me have a proof of concept :) be well.
I played this on my Game Boy DMG and I was impressed with how good the comic panels looked! The main problem with the game in my opinion is how the character and the comic feel very disconnected. The idea of moving around a comic is an awesome idea, but having to jump around and avoid flashing stars is frustrating and you end up not looking at the comic. I think if the player had to move through and interact with the comic, like a puzzle rather than an action platformer, you could do it justice easier.
The music is very erratic, but well done for trying. I think with time, this idea and your music skills will develop and this demo could become an awesome game.
I have never seen a comic on a Game Boy before, so this is very unique and it looks awesome! I would love to read a comic on a Game Boy with some cool music and maybe some gameplay aspects.
thanks! Its a weird balance to make a story in such a small screen, but I wanted to get the idea out there as proof of concept. GBA had comixzone but I don't recall action happening in between the panels... You're right adding puzzles and a solid storyline would work wonders which time permitting, I will try to do.. but perhaps in another engine (unless gbstudio3 lets me achieve some of this), thanks again.
The concept of platforming between comic book panels and collecting thoughts is an interesting way to approach a platformer. The only problem is that execution is lacklustre, the story is confusing and the music is best turned off.
I still urge the creator to pursue the idea! It's a great concept that could be incredibly interesting and fun if the right amount of care and time was put into it.
hi yes thanks I will try to pursue this idea... but maybe with a bigger screen as gb is limiting (although fun learning) ...
