For me, it was a bit unclear as to what to do at first, but after reading your game page I managed to 'win' the game by inserting a coin I didn't have to look for in the first place.

The movement feels a bit clunky and the soundtrack (which I like!) suggests an eerier and more mysterious atmosphere; I can't see that back in the overall tone of the scene. I do think the level design is quite well done, though, but I can see you've been struck by the Game Jam gods, time-wise.

Can you tell me anything about the concept? What's your end game?

Developer

Yes! We have definetly been hit by the GameJam gods in terms of time, let's say that the real development started after 24 hours since we were having some trouble defining what to go for. This is also because of our uni deadlines, which did not let us think too much about the topic prior to the gamejam :/. It is also our first Game Jam so we will keep this in mind next time!
The game would have been more ambitious and there would have been some kind of explanation at first thanks to some UI text or even a dubbed voice in the background. The concept of the game would be the following:

Recently, the gods have not been happy with society's actions, since they saw how humanity was not grateful for their protection anymore. In turn, the goddess Amaterasu grants you the ability to see the disasters in the future caused by the gods, or kami. Your task is to prevent the kami from becoming angry and punishing humanity; in order to do so, you have to beat their trials by showing gratitude to them.

In this demo, your task takes place in the shrine of the fire kami, Hi no Kagutsuchi. By switching between past and present you will be able to see the disasters made by the kami (and eventually some new paths). You must find a way to show your gratitude to prevent the damage (yes, the coin was the solution, since it's a typical offering to the gods to show gratitude following Shinto's beliefs, we just did not have the time to explain it).

The idea would have been to make the trial harder and eventually add other shrines to beat later on, each one related to the element of the kami for that shrine (like the wind, thunder and water kami). Hope that's clear enough!

We will show our gratefulness to the Game Jam Gods next time. Thanks for the feedback tho!

I was very confused as to what to do but I enjoyed the music and the scene! They sound & look great! Character controller is pretty janky :p
