I like games where you upgrade things (this time this beautiful tree) and I liked your game.

But I must say I'm a bit confused about the visual idea behind growing the last tree (throwing coals in the fire so the tree can burn/grow better) and the couldron looks more like a well. Crazy idea but perhaps if the tree was being fertilized by monsters' poop so you'd have to go both looking for and avoiding monsters to grow the tree?

The other thing that bugged me was that I couldn't always know will my character pick up the coal or berries I'm trying to pick up or drop them where I wanted them. That bugged me because dropping coal in the darkness meant I had to walk around and press Z blindly while the wolf or the bat were approaching.

I like the idea how monsters chase you once you leave the safe zone but once they find you for the first time the game seems like it's over. I could run to the safe zone but as soon as I leave it there's the wolf again and I can't pick up the coal and walk towards the tree while simultaneously switching between coal and the light source. So sadly I didn't finish the game. I hope you'll work on the concept further after the jam.

Thanks a lot for the feedback :-)! The poop idea is a good one, but the idea was to have the coal fuel the growth of the light berries. I agree that the cauldron looks more like a well so i'll change the description to that so it's a bit clearer. And yeah the pickup system was quite annoying especially when there were two items in the same spot, because you have to put a lantern down to see the coal but then the pickup system prefered to pickup the lantern. Also don't feel bad about not finishing the game only one of us managed to finish it after one our of playing. We didn't have much time to playtest so the wolf is way too fast, it's more of a jumpscare that you just have to avoid alltogether at this point. It's just a wolf btw no bat, but i'm glad you liked the game.

Then I suppose the wolf just got me really fast like he flew towards me on my second playthrough so I thought it was a bat.
