It's a good concept, but I think the main thing it needs is some sort of display of what's happening during the turn, like working through each card individually and showing it take effect. That kind of player feedback will help in understanding what is happening with each turn, as well as giving cards a satisfying 'weight' to using them.
The presentation and interface are a good start though, and again the concept itself is good - nice work!
What this game needs is explanation of mechanics, even in a form of a simple textbox.
Thanks for the input! This was my first game jam and I had a hard time with the time limit at the end so I wasn't able to add lots of the things I knew I was going to need. There originally was planned to be animations to make the action easier to read as well as more interesting card effects meant to abuse enemy AI in order to solve puzzles rather then the simple building blocks I was able to piece together, leading to more simple puzzles that I wasn't able to design completely. I think it was a good effort, and I hope to do better next year.
I don't quite "get it". I made it though a few levels but still had a hard time understanding exactly what was going on. Animations and explanation would help a lot.
The idea of sequencing preset actions from a limited pool is a common mechanic for puzzle games but I didn't feel it quite worked as implemented here.
The art is pretty nice, song choice was okay, but I feel like one of the crucial things missing is animations. Although you kept it simple with the mechanics and UI, you made a good effort. Nice work!
