I enjoyed the flavour about major number dice means that they can kill you. I can suggest to polish when you are you kill or you are killed and when you enter in the laboratory to get the gun. Maybe when you hit with the weapon the dice, you can change the sprite everytime, for example a dice with the number three, the 3 dots are red as meaning his life, than when u hit it, it goes 2 red dots and 1 black and so on until he finish his life
