How does your submission match the theme?
I ran out of time before I could add all the juicy duel-purposed stuff I wanted, but the goal was to follow in the footsteps of Klonoa where the player uses enemies to extend their own mechanics and navigate through levels in ways they otherwise would be unable to do without the presence of enemies.

Third-party resources
No third-party resources to speak of here. Graphics and code all handmade by yours truly.

This was a solo effort.
Though I do wish I asked someone to hook me up with some dope samurai graphics. But then I would have had to figure out how to program animations which I totally didn't have time for LOL

This was a fun game! I think the only thing is sometimes you'd dash and when you were finished, you'd keep up a little momentum that would hit an enemy and you'd die. But dashing felt good! Especially in later levels when you would dash with a pattern hitting multiple enemies. It was a lot of fun!

Nice little effects! I included it in my Game Maker Toolkit’s Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
