Short description of the game
As an astronaut travelling through space it is your job to maintain your ship but something seems to be working against you. Solder the cracks, connect the right wires and re-attach the loose parts before it's too late.
Development Process
After the theme was launched, we started brainstorming and had a few different ideas for the game, but we decided on the concept of an astronaut up in space, trying to maintain their ship. Once we had an idea, we divided the work and established our first deadlines.
For the second day, everyone put in a lot of work, because we knew we wanted to save time over the weekend to fix bugs and add more features. Necessary 3D models of the inside and outside spaceship, UI for the helmet and screens, player movement, and interaction with objects were created and added to the project.
The third day was for fleshing out the look of the game. Decorative 3D models, post-processing, controls tutorial, and smoother movement through space was added.
On the fourth day we added important details and had a call to discuss progress andto see if anyone needed help. Sound effects, animations, Main Menu, Pause Menu and the wires mini-game were created and added to the project.
On the fifth day we found issues within our game and collectively worked to fix them. Lighting, responsive sound effects, flashlight mechanics and the ending cutscene were all added. We also created and customised the itch page for our game.
On the sixth day we saw that during the playtest on the live stream, there wasn’t enough indication in our game on where to go and what player should do so we added light indicators to guide the player and ease the gameplay experience. Once we had ironed out the last few issues we made the final gameplay video and trailer and uploaded it all to itch.
Did you work in a multicultural/multilingual team over different time-zones?
We are all based in Ireland as 2nd year Game Design students in TU Dublin, but we still have a very multicultural team. With two people from Ukraine, one from Poland and one from the Netherlands, and 6 languages between us.
