The range needed for gathering stuff wasn't clear to me despite the box that appears to be the pickup zone. I'd go an mash E on a shelf/thing that seemed to be glowing or seemed to have things on it, but nothing would appear to happen half the time and/or I'd go through the shelf.

I don't think it was intentional, but worming my way through walls was entertaining.

I wanted to spend or use what I'd gathered, but couldn't figure out how.
>If you could change, add, or remove any 1 thing, what would it be?
I'd add an enemy or impediment. You could make an infinite loop out of what you have with a constant impediment and the ability to get upgrades.
