As a note to anyone struggling with the imbalanced battles... if you haven't found the skill learning system, you can go to the skill menu and learn skills once you have some Credits. The Energy Blast skill ended up extra powerful, so use that for help defeating enemies. Last Stand is also powerful if Astra's health is getting low.
Also, if you've gotten to the ending, the new party member has a skill called Vital Breaker that is extremely overpowered.
Gave the game a try for a about 30 minutes.. I really like the look of the ui e the maps looks nice too. I really enjoyed exploring the base, it looks really cool. The repeat feature is pretty awesome too! I like being able to continue where I left off after dying. :P
I only leveled up to level 2.. so I dunno if that's why but all monsters (except the aliens you find right away) were super strong! :O I kept dying so I ended up just starting to run from them... xD
I love the crafting system in the game too.. but I felt like there was kind of a lack of tutorial for it. But I was able to create the first thingy you need (power converter?) but after that I didn't really come across any more materials that I needed (wires and metals? where? couldn't find more).
Overall: This looks like a solid game! It seems like there's a very interesting story going, the main character (and her buddy robot) are fun and unique in their own way.. The battle system could use some balance but I didn't level a lot so I'm not sure. I love crafting in rpg games so this was a huge plus for me in this game! I also would like to add that I felt a bit lost... The journal was a great help so I knew I was suppose to go to fix the satellite but I wasn't sure how to proccedd in the outside exploration so that I could do that.. I ended up wandering lost a few times until I died like twice or thrice and gave up.. XD Sorry for being a quiter! haha
I hope you'll continue working on this game after the contest is over because I definitely see myself playing it when it's finished and loving it. Good luck!!
Thanks for playing! Most materials should be in the storage room (in the main area of the base, it's the door on the bottom left), and they'll respawn after you leave the room and come back.
I did run out of time to finish balancing the battles... Once the jam is over, I'll be fixing that as well as the other issues.
My first thought was, "Whoa that was cool that you packaged the .zip in a blue cube!" Took me some time to download (I have the slowest internet) but I finally got a chance to play your game! Here's what I thought, but keep in mind I didn't finish it yet.
The first thing I want to say is that you put a lot of obvious work into this game and the polish that comes with that shows! So far, this is probably my favorite entry. However, I would like to echo a point of criticism from Xorclev in regards to enemies blending into the backgrounds. They are almost invisible to me, which makes fighting kind of confusing. The art is wonderful and the music is fitting as well, just wish I could see the bad guys a bit better.
The crafting in specific spots didn't bug me, but I could see an argument for allowing that to occur anywhere (maybe a small thing you need to craft first or something). That's a more of a longevity feature and would probably please people, but like I said, it personally didn't bother me.
World building and story is on point. Gonna give you that full five stars, you definitely earned it despite a few (very minor) flaws. Keep up the great work and will certainly play more of this! Can't wait to see what you do next for this, or on another project.

Thank you so much! I'll definitely be fixing the enemies/backgrounds issue for when the jam is over.
The main reasons I restricted the crafting locations were first for a bit more of a player challenge, and second because it made it easier for me to keep the journal updated. Since some quests involve crafting a certain item, I had to add events to check player inventory for these items. Actually, as I'm typing this, your mention of crafting an item to craft anywhere just gave me an idea for how to work around this. Haha I'll play around with it and see how it goes.
Sure thing! Glad to hear you'll be supporting this after the jam. I may just wait until then so it is a bit easier for me to play with the enemies.
On the note about crafting, that totally makes sense, I used similar tricks in my game as well. Glad I could give you an idea, hopefully it works but if not, you gave it a go and challenged yourself. I think that's what is important!
Anyway, best of luck on the Jam, I sincerely hope you do well!

Thanks, and good luck to you too!
Hello! I tried out the first hour of your game and I really enjoyed it. Such a great concept and a wonderful story. I especially liked how you used different text noises for the girl and B.U.D. Nice touch! I also dug the battle backgrounds but the alien monsters kind of blended in a bit. It took some getting used to but I eventually figured it out. Adding shield points was also very clever and made the battles a bit more interesting for me. My only gripes, and these are minor by all means, was the lack of "item noises" when you found something in the field or in the lab. I also couldn't tell how difficult monsters were until I was in the battle. And I wish I could craft anywhere, not just in special locations. Again, very minor, I plan to go back and play through until the end! Excellent work overall!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you liked it!
I uploaded an edit with sound effects for finding items, so please re-download if you want to hear the changes. If I have time before the jam ends, I'll look into ways to make the aliens stand out from the backgrounds, and change some graphics to differentiate between harder enemies. If not, I'll work on it for after the rating period is ended.
