At which point in the game did you get too confused to keep playing ? The game is very unclear and I need to know where to focus my pedagogical efforts

Realy cool game, and looks really nice. I actually got stuck at the start and stopped playing. I think it is because I just woke up and did not know it was a game where you have to really figure things out. So I will come back later and post again if it went well, but my reaction was a bit "What?" in the very first section. And there is not really any text for guidance..
I absolutely love the art! I had trouble figuring out how to pass the barrier in the place where we unlock the third rune. I'm guessing they each do something different. but couldn't figure out what. Awesome work so far!!
