This game effectively showcases the benefits on focusing on one mechanic and creating a singular core goal for a game jam. The art throughout the game is consistent and unique within the jam, with impressive and clean UI to support the gameplay experience. The game feels challenging, and could do with a little more balancing, but the core concept is there and communicated very effectively. A great addition to the team's portfolio.
This game has a lot of bright colours which I really appreciate! The simplicity of this game project provided the chance to explore a more consistent art style; the mix of simplistic neon and realistic styles detracted from the impact of both styles. Consider this in future game jams; though I know that the time limit of game jams can make it difficult to properly build up an art style along with multiple assets.
The gameplay was easy to pick up and play, which is really good for a game jam. The delay in picking up pieces of scrap felt a bit clunky, though I imagine it was put in place so that the player couldn't zoom around the entire map hoovering up scrap and never getting hit by enemy fire. Maybe consider adding a more interactive element to the scrap collection arm after Jamfuser.
This submission "does what it says on the tin", and it's a really solid base for a more developed game. I can easily see how the addition of an upgrade system, the addition of new ships to avoid, new tools for the player to smash through asteroids, could improve the game and only add to the fun of playing it.I think being a player in someone else's war is interesting; dodging around picking stuff up. More work needs to be done on the sound and SFX, it felt like I should be able to control the junk claw. It was also not immediately clear what was and wasn't junk. I like the idea and the aesthetic, and with some more work it could be a good little game, maybe a mobile clicker? With an upgrade feedback loop, similar to Vostok Inc?
