Having to navigate to the data by ears is such an interesting mechanic, especially when radiation obscures your vision and you sort of have to eyeball where the walls are.
It's sort of scary thinking about how massive the sunken ship must be, the reduced vision and sameness of the walls no matter your direction make it feel like an endless labyrinth, I love it.
I love games with unique ways to perceive the world. I got to 45% data before I ran into radiation and lost connection ;(. Does the timing of the pings tell you which direction the data is in? I feel like I was going insane trying to figure out which way it was in. Anyways, excellent vibes. Frustrating to play but I imagine it is frustrating to remote control a vessel in real life too. I like it!
Thank you for playing! Sorry that it was a frustrating experience. And no, the timing of data pings only tells you if you can collect it (when the time between pings goes from 1.6 to 0.8 seconds). Direction is determined through stereo i.e. the ping is louder in the right ear if the data is to the right of you. I probably should have added at least one other way of determining direction as if someone didn’t have headphones, or some other way of listening with stereo, it would make it very hard to locate the data.
