  • Theme: Personally, I think the theme is both completely fitting into "Odd Obsessions" as well as being absolutely hysterical; a serial killer skeleton who kills with sharpened TV trays makes absolutely no sense and it wraps back around into being metal as hell, I completely fuck with it. And, appropriately, everything about his kit complements the theme; all of his attacks involve some kind of movement of the TV trays in some fashion (although I'm not quite sure I understand Flesh...). They're extremely barebones, yes, but that by no means detracts from how well this follows the jam's themes. SCORE: 4/5 Moves & Mechanics: ...Which is why it breaks my heart that this character is the way he is. All of his normals have 1f startup and exclusively high hitboxes, several also have 1f IASA. He also lacks any guard breaks or specials, and has one meter dump damage super which, despite looking like an overhead, hits low? His damage is absurdly high, as is his hitstun, as there appears to have been no care made to change hitstun values from their defaults, making a ToD on even mind reader DI trivial. Despite that, it's essentially impossible for him to even get to the point of a combo, as he loses outright to simply... blocking 1f high. And even if he has super to use Trey's Tray Faith, it is 22f startup with no blockstun data, so theres no reason to ever fish for it. In general, there are issues with his moves; alongside the aforementioned 1f everything, Punch and Kick both have 1f IASA, Tray Surfer hits OTG for some reason, TV Slicer lacks followup states outright despite being one of his best moves, requiring you to instant or burst cancel to continue your combo from it, and both TV Toss and Trey's Tray Faith do not apply forces for their duration, making his only anti-air options (which would otherwise be amazing, may I add) almost impossible to hit. It makes me sad to be so harsh on this character, but there simply was not enough of an understanding of game balance for the kit to be able to hold up. SCORE: 1/5 Visuals: All things considered, I am quite fond of how TV Trey looks. He looks appropriately goofy for what he is, being a skeleton who kills with TV trays. His icons are remarkably clear in what they do for what its worth, and while the animation quality itself is amateurish, I can see the care that was put into it and can look past the somewhat lower-than-average sprite quality and appreciate it nonetheless. Moves are accurate visually to their hitboxes, but like I said earlier, the issue is more in the hitboxes themselves. Overall, good work on visuals. SCORE: 3/5 Aesthetic: The moves tie in pretty much perfectly with the aesthetic and conceit of the character, being someone who fights with TV trays. I do feel that Punch and Kick are a little forced out of maybe a sense of necessity that they should be there, but it's hardly an issue worth docking points over. I can clearly see the vision, and while he is by no means fleshed out or in a complete state, it makes me yearn for a future version where there is more to this character, and with that version of the character being made with a better understanding of how the game ticks. SCORE: 3/5 Gameplay: And again, I have to return to being blunt, this is just a hitbox character. Which, again, breaks my poor little heart, because I am so fucking fond of this little guy. He's super interactive from both sides, as he only effectively has 1f highs, so parry 1f and you win and dont get burst read if you somehow get hit. He deals downright vile damage, so its certainly not hard to ToD once you get a hit in. There's not much reason to play them unfortunately, not even as a replay character. SCORE: 1/5 FINAL GRADE: 12/25
  • This character is funny, he is WILDLY unbalanced but also so silly, the theming is wild! Using TV trays as weapons and just being overall a maniac, this guy gave me a giggle. Pros: I like the creativity Cons: 1f startup on practically everything is super insane, like this guy has NO neutral, and it's impossible to combo with him if the opponent just blocks 1f unless you combo off of grab. The grab is RIDICULOUSLY strong, you get a super powerful combo off of it, even on DI down! The combo damage is insane for low effort Trey' tray faith is the only not 1f move and instead it's 22 frames, it hits low for some reason. 2 of the moves have 1f iasa, meaning they're completely unpunishable. TV Trey, overall, is definitely peculiar, I wish this character could get revamped to actually be viable, but as it stands now, it's just a funny joke character, that's nothing bad of course, but even then, some things feel like oversights.
  • why is the kick attack in the movement category dude this super does like half health This isn't irredeemable but there's a lot of work that needs to be done. I had to look up what a TV Tray was and the weapons don't even look like TV Trays. All in all, demented. There wasn't anything even to test. Sorry for the harsh rating but the competition is incredibly tough and relative to them this doesn't hold up. I'm rooting for this to become more coherent though.

Wildly busted and unfinished, but such a fun idea and aesthetic. Hope this'll get some heavy polishing to become more of a real character.
