Q: Can I use gradient, shades or it must have only 3 colours?
A: Yes, you can! As long as the game uses three colours or less! I forgot to mention that shades do count as colours

Q: Are Black and White considered colours? Can I simulate such with the exposure/absence of light?
A: Yes, they are, and yes, you can! Just make sure that the colours of the game don't pass three colours! (Shades count as colours too!)

Q: Can the colours change from level to level?
A: Of course, you can change the colours from level to level! As long as they don't pass three colours

Q: Does anti-aliased pixels count as different colours too?
A: Yes!

Q: If I used a bright green and then dark green, would it count as "one" colour?
A: Nope! It will be considered two colours because shades do count, so if you used a bright green and a dark green, for example, on a sprite, it counts as two colours, not one!

Q: Is the jam exclusive? As in, you're only allowed to submit the game to this jam?
A: Nope! It isn't exclusive!

My understanding is that you can't have more than 3 colors on screen at any given time. However, you can change the color palette throughout the game. Is that correct?

Yes, this is correct!
