Welcome to the third annual MinnMax community game jam: MinnHax 2024!

MinnHax Details and FAQs

MinnHax Recommended Resources

Rules:

1. No copyrighted material- this includes logos, music, art assets from other games, etc. We would like these games to be as streamable as possible, so please be mindful. If you’re unsure if something you want to use would be an issue, please ask a jam moderator!

2. No hateful/offensive content- Any games featuring hateful, discriminatory, or offensive content will be excluded from the jam and the final showcase at the moderator’s discretion. There is no place for anything falling under those categories in this community. If you aren’t sure about something, please ask a jam moderator early on in the process.

3. Keep content appropriate and family-friendly- Jammers should try to keep their games’ content inclusive and family-friendly, within reason. Think T-rated games and PG-13-rated movies as the high end of what is allowed for the jam. If you aren’t sure about something specific you’d like to include, please ask a jam moderator early in the process. This is especially important for games using MinnMax logos, cohort likenesses, etc.- please be considerate with the content and situations you’re including MinnMax content in. Jammers are welcome to use and reference MinnMax materials, but any MinnMax logos, cohort likenesses, et al. still belong to  MinnMax and the respective individuals.

4. Be kind- Game development can be stressful- please be considerate and supportive of your teammates as well as members of other teams. Remember, this is not a competition- everyone is working together to make as many cool projects as possible. Please reach out to the jam moderators about any interpersonal issues that come up over the course of the jam.

5. No illegal/torrented software- Please avoid using illegal/torrented copies of development software for your projects- our resource list has free alternatives for game engines, image editing, sound editing, etc.

6. All tools/platforms are welcome- Jammers are free to use whatever tools and engines they’d like to develop their games (with respect to Rule #5). Anything from Unity or Unreal to Dreams (PS4) and Game Maker Garage to physical board games and one-shot RPGs are welcome! Use whatever you’re comfortable with and will allow you to make the best and most interesting games!

7. Everything you make is your own- MinnMax nor the jam moderators claim any ownership over any materials created for the jam. Your work is your own (with respect to Rule #1). You can even feel free to keep working on your games beyond the submission period if you’re still excited about them! As mentioned in #3, any MinnMax logos, likenesses, etc. still belong to MinnMax or the respective person.

8. Please no generative AI- Jammers are discouraged from using generative AI tools including ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc. While these tools can be interesting as part of a wider workflow, we’d rather see what participants can create on their own. Your art doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be yours!

9. You must have access to the MinnMax Discord to participate- You can still use alternative channels to communicate with other participants, including the Community section on our itch.io page, but having access to the MinnMax Discord is mandatory.
