I picked up this game in the Solo But Not Alone 4 bundle. I really enjoyed playing it; the combination of the journaling aspect with the prompts and the almost tactical nature of the system failures with the cards worked well. The details of how some of the card mechanics worked were a bit muddled (specifically dealing with shuffling in discards), but I figured it out after a couple rounds.
1400 Mage does great work in bringing magic to the already beautiful 24XX engine. I highly recommend this zine if you want to introduce magic users to your game. And this is not just within the 1400 fantasy framework. I can easily picture these rules working well for urban or more surreal magical settings.
