A good dungeon-crawler with a cool battle system that shows its potential once you fight the ghost in Level 10. Being able to use poker cards as attack and defense with a MP limit has some strategy involved, and the randomly dealt cards give players the opportunity to either sacrifice attack over defense and vice versa, or play out cards in hopes of setting up a more powerful 5-card combo like a straight or flush. This is possible in the later levels where the enemies get tougher, and sometimes they hide their attack damage, so players need to predict and take risks. This game can have great potential if worked on further, but sadly due to the time limit of the game jam, it currently lacks polish and there’s not much the player can do. Good effort!
We had somewhat similar ideas! I liked the concept of poker combat! A few technical notes:
* The window was too tiny
* sprites were blurry
* movement was too slow on the overworld
Wow, the battle system is really creative! I loved it! Pretty cool game, but I didn't get to see the ending (it has one?), after level 20 I got tired of going down lol. Still pretty fun anyway, though in my opinion you could ditch the dungeon crawler aspect because it felt more like a slog between battles than anything else. Maybe jumping from battle to battle with perphaps a little shop (perhaps to heal?) or something between 3 or 4 of the battles would've been better. And I think the lack of sfx and music really hurt an otherwise great entry.
Still, pretty creative! Hope you keep improving on it!
Yeah I wanted to add events, shops, a proper ending and different items. Especially sound!
Unfortunately I do work full time and have other commitments so I was unable to work on it for as long as I would have liked to. Oh well, lesson learnt to go for a less ambitious battle system next time :P
Thank you for your kind feedback!
