I have still yet to run or play this game, but I've read it quite a bit and spent a lot of time talking with people about it.
All I can say is first of all the titular mechanic single handedly elevates this game to genius - but everything else surrounding that mechanic is just as well thought out and the game is only ever getting MORE polished. I am being completely genuine when I say I believe Eureka is the next indie darling in the TTRPG space.
A great deal of fun, and I'm sure it'll only get more polished from here! I don't feel like I have to fight my character sheet to play a character how I envision them like with some other games, the way an investigator is built factors that in from the start. The supernatural options are fascinating and compelling, but mundane investigators are just as fun. The system doesn't pull its punches, but isn't too punishing either. Eureka is easily one of my favorite tabletops I've played so far.
the best investigative trpg yet made. give this team $1000.
I'm a simple bog witch. I see a game that lists Blood and Columbo as its inspirations, I give it a hearty 5 Stars.
An investigative rpg that distinguishes itself through mechanics and simple but detailed character creation. Making characters come alive in this system is really easy, and two investigators tend to be really different even BEFORE the supernatural options come to play. Lovely!
