The best investigative RPG I have come across: combines a systemic approach to design with fantastic scaffolding to carry investigative gameplay, along with a refreshing approach to urban fantasy that is grounded first and foremost in folklore.
Incredible design. Even if you have no intention on playing this game, it's still worth picking up for the commentary on TTRPG play conventions and game design alone. Revolutionary stuff. It's helped me grow as both a player and designer of TTRPGs.
Fantastic work! You can tell that the creators are very passionate about TTRPGs and have great experience both as players and GMs. I can't wait to try it!
I have still yet to run or play this game, but I've read it quite a bit and spent a lot of time talking with people about it.
All I can say is first of all the titular mechanic single handedly elevates this game to genius - but everything else surrounding that mechanic is just as well thought out and the game is only ever getting MORE polished. I am being completely genuine when I say I believe Eureka is the next indie darling in the TTRPG space.
A great deal of fun, and I'm sure it'll only get more polished from here! I don't feel like I have to fight my character sheet to play a character how I envision them like with some other games, the way an investigator is built factors that in from the start. The supernatural options are fascinating and compelling, but mundane investigators are just as fun. The system doesn't pull its punches, but isn't too punishing either. Eureka is easily one of my favorite tabletops I've played so far.
