[DEVLOG] Untitled relaxing greenhouse game

The (Untitled) game:

This is meant to be a very art and story focused game. For now, I have a lot of narrative ideas, but what I have set on already is:

You are a man in your fifties who decided to take care of your late grandfather's abandoned greenhouse.

The core gameplay is simple: You can rearrange the plants the way you want in the greenhouse, you can water them, talk to them or just be in their presence. You can take as much time as you want. As the days go by you have dreams about the time you spent with your grandfather in the greenhouse and the life lessons he gave you. You may find them to be rejuvenating.


Small "team" introduction:

 I'm a 21 year-old computer science student from Brazil and this is my first game jam. I have never finished a game before, but I have started multiple little games in Godot so I'm somewhat comfortable with the programming aspect. I have very little experience with art, but I am in love with pixel art games (my biggest inspirations are Kingdom and Children of Morta), and I consider it to be the easiest style for me right now, so I'm focusing on that. Since the idea for this jam is to learn something, I plan on doing a very art focused game, with extremely simple gameplay - the idea is to enjoy a cute relaxing story.

I'm doing this game solo during two pretty busy work weeks, so I know I won't be able to finish what I want until the deadline, but I do want to deliver something.


I hope I was able to convey my vision for this game and I hope you guys don't find it too boring. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Till the next update!

First ART update

Since it is an art-focused game and I had some free time, I decided to start the first version of the player and greenhouse background before coding. For now this is pretty much all I have. I plan on adding more vegetation on the outside and messing with the tint of the glass. Although it's not much, it may help to give a better idea on the style I'm trying to go with.

So I worked a lot on animating the PC and making controls to walk and pick up stuff. For now all I have is the watering can hahaha I made a separate spritesheet for when he is holding the can and when that triggers I make the can disappear and re-appear again wherever he leaves it (yes, for now I can leave it hanging mid-air).

Overall I'm happy with the progress, it's more than I've ever done for a video game.

That being said I think the movement is a little too jerky and I drew myself into a corner with that background, I have no idea how I'll manage to animate the grass ;-; Any suggestions appreciated.
