I got spooked once and turned it off immediately. There's something so unsettling about retro graphics in a horror game. Absolutely cannot handle horror, so I think it's a bit unfair for me to rate the experience based on, like, 30 seconds of gameplay. I would just like to say: good job giving me a heart attack. Gonna need a lot of pizza after this.

(I promise to return and try again if this happens to be the last game I have yet to properly test out)

Haha apologies! XD No problem!

"Parody horror"

I jumped several times you MONSTER

Well done for just the 2 days! (Our game was developed in maybe 4 days and felt much more disjointed than this) I only got 3 keys before Lion boi got me, navigating a maze backwards is way harder than I thought it'd be.

One thing that would make this more doable (and would allow you to make even more complex areas with this idea) would be a map that auto-fills as you explore more of the area, so backtracking isn't as prevalent. I certainly went to the same place several times before finding a key, which made the game feel a bit sluggish. As CommieKazie also noted, movement and look speed would go a long way.

Anyways please make more spooky things!

Developer

Lol thank you! Yeah that could be something to think about for a future project. :)

Echoing other reviewers here: Very simple premise that was very spooky (been done before, but your execution worked!)
Potentially increasing player movement & look speed would help with the frustration folk were feeling trying to navigate the maze to find 5 objects? I know one of the Metro games had a similar enemy in a library. Rows of shelves broke line of sight pretty well and created suspense and terror because you didn't know how quickly they were coming for you or if they'd be around the next row.

You could also decrease the range that the enemy pursues you at and have more in the map, so you don't have to walk backwards the whole time but still get the "could be around any corner" effect.
Or maybe just keep one and teleport it ahead of the character at a certain point?

Great work for two days though! I've got a low threshold for horror, so I noped out after 2 keys, haha

Developer

Haha thanks! And yea I might do an update after the jam period so it's a bit less frustrating. ^^

Cool idea! The music and the premise were well done, I genuinely felt kind of spooked out. I also quit out before getting to the end since 5 keys is a lot and the maze is really hard to navigate backwards haha. I totally get the short time limit, I started mine super late too :) nice work!

Developer

Thank you! :)

Obviously the statue that only moves when you dont look at it has been done before. But it was done well here. I was genuinely scared! Got me shaking a little bit.

For me, the statue was too fast. I died 7 or 8 times after getting at most 2 keys and I quit because I was frustrated.

Developer

Thanks! And no problem haha, the game kinda makes fun of itself if you actually do win. Normally I'd put more time into balancing it out, but I had only two days left when I started lol

You wrote it off as a parody horror, but I was quite terrified nevertheless. Unnerving atmosphere. I got some keys but didn't quite understand what I needed to do. Maybe I should have listened a bit more closely (subtitles would've helped).

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I haven't tried subtitles before, and I started really late. But I'll definitely look into how it works for next time. ^^

There are 5 keys, I should've wrote "0/5" at the top to make it more clear
