Very nice idea! My first idea also was to make some kind of rythmic game :-D Next time we could definitely team up on that :-)

Sometimes the input was not recognized by the game and there have been some situations where I could not dodge at all :-O The music was great though!

Developer

Hey, thanks for your feedback!

Our game definitely needed more playtesting for better balancing, but we ran out of time :(

Glad you liked the music though!

If you want to team up for another JAM, you’re very welcome :D!

Do you use Discord?

As others have mentioned the game feels very confusing. I also found it that way. I would press the keys according to the move yet it would still not do anything. Also the attacking felt very odd. I was never sure if i was actually damaging the enemy. So maybe a better indication would help. Apart from that, pretty cool game! Liked the audio especially, there was focus on that and it shows! Well done!

Thanks for your feedback!

We have determined that on some PCs, the web version has lag, and it messes up with the music synchronisation. If you have Windows, the downloadable EXE should fix the problem.

As for the attacks, could you explain a little more what confused you? We thought the hit / not hit feedback was clear enough ><

And indeed, we did put a lot of attention to the audio, glad you liked it!

Haven't played much of the games this type, but the attacking felt really confusing. Even when I felt that I pressed the button on correct time, nothing happened. Also, you can only attack if moving right making it even more confusing with the small game area and strict controls.
Perhaps I just need more practise.

The music was really cool, though. Maybe the sound effects were a bit unnecessary since all the focus is on the music and it's rhythm?

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!

Sorry to hear that it felt confusing, we didn't really have time to include a proper tutorial, so we just hoped players would be familiar enough with this kind of mechanics to figure it out themselves.

Only being able to attack after pressing right was our attempt at including a strategy/puzzle element. It does take a bit of practice to get used to, but we do believe it makes the gameplay more interesting!

As for the sound effects, they were meant to act as a sort of percussion to the music, since the actual music track does not have any percussion and only uses Nokia samples. Even the constant beat that you have to follow is made with a sound effect!

Ah, I see what you are going for with the sound effects. I didn't just notice that while playing, but I'll try again.

nice! i liked the idea

however, it was very confusing to know when to press the move buttons

in necrodancer, there were little lines getting closer to the heart in the center so the player would know when to move. this game could really use something like that aswell

otherwise, great work!

Developer

Hi, thanks for the feedback!

We did plan to include a marker similar to the one in Necrodancer, but we had to cut it out due to time constraints. We hoped the characters' head bangs and the HP wiggling could more or less make up for it.

One of the best games I played this jam!
