Cover

Description
1. I recorded myself playing Irish whistle and Irish bouzouki to give it a townlike feel. I experimented with different mixing techniques, particularly relating to the way I used reverb with respect to each instrument.

2. I recorded several different vocal tracks and put a programmed drum track underneath it that I heavily compressed in order to give it a very gritty sound. I experimented with a lot of different delays and reverbs, and I also tried two different compression sidechaining techniques that I had never used before.

thought I recognised the sound of a low whistle in here! Very nice cover (though I don’t know the original); lovely laid-back feel.

Developer

Thank you!  Yeah, trying to inject more low whistle into vgm.

Woooah really fun textures and production on the second song!

Developer

Thank you!  Yeah, was going for something very atmospheric to contrast with the first one.

Really really cool treatment of these tunes! The production and sounds on #2 are really effective.

Developer

Thank you!  Was hoping to create something really atmospheric with the second one.

Damn, dude, you got some lungs.

Developer(+1)

Haha thank you!

Wow, that sound so good! It's really better with real instruments, and some creativity ^^

What kind of mic are you using for recording?

Developer(+1)

Thank you!  I recorded with an AKG P420.

These are both very cohesive tracks and I applaud you and your versatility for performing almost every aspect of each of them. You have a beautiful tenor voice and I also want to recognize that, from the looks of your screenshots, there was minimal splicing of different takes, if any. That is really impressive to have such a high quality with each of your tracks. They both turned out really great! Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you so much!  I'm really trying to incorporate more vocals in VGM, so I'm glad to hear that that was appreciated.

The flute playing was really nice

Developer

Thank you!

Loved both of these, the effort you put into the mixing/recording definitely came across in how cohesive they sounded! I've not played the games that the originals are from, but these definitely made me want to give them a try :)

Was the background 'pad' on the second track also your vocals? I couldn't work out if it was that or a synth, very cool effect :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you!  Really means a lot to me.  The games are really awesome and represent some of the best of what the SFC/SNES had to offer.  Yes, there's a bass pad I put under the vocals just to add to the low drone feel of the track.
