  • Thanks for joining the game jam! Good start with the GDD. Unfortunately I wasn't able to run your game in Firefox, but it does work on Chrome. The game is really fun! I especially like that you have extra things like R to resize and T to switch to a slow-mo fighting mode. I ended up pressing SPACE a lot to jump around and kick people though. NOTE: I think kicking isn't working or doing any damage. But other attacks do. The fights against the bigger enemy (and the boss after that) felt a little repetitive, I just kept using the tables for cover. Maybe there's something you can do to make those more interesting. I think I get the point behind your interpretation for the shadow aspect of the theme, but the alchemy part feels like it is missing. As you mentioned in your GDD, you decided to focus on gameplay -- and the gameplay is great! -- but it would have been nice to see some kind of indication of how you planned to use the alchemy theme in the plot or storyline. Hopefully you continue to work on this game, I think you've got a great starting point and... I'll say it again... the fighting is genuinely fun. Well done.
  • Playability Some mechanics advertised do not work. Kick does 0 damage and has no impact at all, although it should be the main move according to the description. Teleport doesn't target well. Bonus Point for making the player respawn when they jump off the map. Theme I personally didn't like the adoption of the theme. Yes you are a "shadow fighter", but besides that everything is dark, your abilities are black, there was nothing that stood out. Might as well have been the same way with the alchemy and declare if flair. There was no gameplay mechanic around it. Cleverness I can't really say anything about the cleverness, because over my playtime, the only real thing to do was smash w to stagger everything even the boss. So there was no interesting gameplay there. Artistic Style Was okay
  • Well done on making your game! I had a few issues with the game. I had to run it in Chrome, using Firefox lead to a loading loop and not actually running the game. If this is intentional or known, maybe put a disclaimer on your page :) When playing, none of my kicks seemed to land so I had to punch my way through, and they made very little damage on the boss. I did turn into a giant but that lead to another bug where I kept jumping and dodging and never fighting so maybe look into this again. Also I never like it when a boss is able to hit me through a platform. But those were only a few bugs and I actually had fun playing your game! Maybe make it so starting it leads to the menu first so players don't get beaten up right when loading :D The music was a good choice and punching those enemies was a lot of fun! I think you did a good job here and I hope you'll work a bit more on this so more people can enjoy your game! PS: What a name :D

Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
You were imprisoned, until a strange figure gave you a magical potion, turning you into.. The Shadow Fister. Now you must escape from the prison you were in, which should probably only take about 5 minutes with your new shadow abilities, such as teleporting to enemy shadows, becoming a shadow giant, and summoning shadow bolts from all the nearby shadows.

Controls: WASD + What you see in the action bar
Hover over the action bar to see a description of the abilities

Basic idea: attacks gain mana, you use your mana on shadow abilities

Hey, great accomplishment for two weeks work. All the core mechanics are working. It could use some more polish but that could be said about any game :) Here are some observations:

- The game is really dark. I can't see the player character, especially in embed mode with white page background. I can't see the second floor above the ladder.

- I am attacked immediately after game starts. It took me several deaths before I figured out how to fight back. I would prefer to start in a quiet corner to have some time to get used to the controls.

- When I hit an enemy, the blood appears to come from the player character. I can't tell who got hit, whether me or the enemy.

- Kicking doesn't do anything when not jumping. Is that a feature?

- Projectiles look a bit weird, they disappear mid air and move too slow.
