  • I have very few words to actually describe how this game felt playing it. I am a big fan of the two games you had as inspiration. Voices of the Void and Stories Untold are two of my favorite games to have played, and I love the feelings of isolation you get from them. This game shows IMENSE promise in this judges opinion. Now that my gushing about how peak cinema this was, now to review. This game was extremely fun to play, even if it was for only 10 minutes. I didn't run into any issues at all, I will say though, the scan lines are a bit rough to deal with when reading text and numbers. Another small complaint I had was with the text box, it would be great if you were either always active in there, or if you clicked anywhere it would automatically make it active again. I had this issue a few times when selecting IDs for files. These are my only complaints about this game. I will say, however, that the Theme isn't necessarily the best implemented. There is a distinct different between *being* the weapon (Think, doomguy or The Master Chief) vs someone *controlling* a weapon (Think any CoD main character, without their weapon, they aren't necessarily always going to win.) It is clear here that we are simply controlling this weapon to mine asteroids and kill [REDACTED] The story is very interesting, and certainly wants me craving to find out more. Well done on that aspect. The horror is also very good, I knew as soon as the GENESIS "Asteroid" showed up that it was going to be an alien, and I really liked how there was some build up before your character is killed. I also really dig the super simple terminal design, with key words/sentences being in a different color. The audio is also very well done, with the sounds of the station moving and reacting with your inputs. It was very immersive when I played this at night with the lights off. Overall, this is one of my favorite games of this Jam. You have knocked this out of the park.

Yes

Summarise your game!
Operation EOS is a terminal based psychological horror game. It drops you into a situation where you are not aware of your surroundings, and you must do some digging to figure out what is going on, and what your next steps should be. There are no jumpscares, just text and sound effects. Please wear headphones if you can.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
(SPOILERS)
In the game, you have been sent on a mission by the government that aims to take advantage of resources within asteroids. You will soon find, however, that this was not entirely the truth. You may have been sent there for a different reason, that requires you to initiate attacks on unknown celestial bodies. You are actually the weapon.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
There are a few things you can find in the game if you explore the terminal. The main story is progressed through the process of mining asteroids. There are also two endings, which can be chosen from when you hit the final crossroads decision.

Made it to the end and really liked the whole premise. Really nice job. I'd guess a lot of people will not easily make the logical jump to figure out how to launch caliber 8, but then again the kind of person who will play a command line game long enough to get to that point can probably get there. Great work on the audio too!
