  • This is a fine base for starting a platformer game. I really liked the dead animations for the researchers, it adds a lot of character and juiciness to the game. The idea for the game, as per the GDD, is definitely an interesting one and I would have loved to see it come true in the game. The design aspects of the game were described with an okay amount of depth, but the GDD is primarily missing more information about mechanics and art. Remember that the GDD is not a task that has to be done before or after the development, it is an important first step of development itself. Other than being part of this jam's submission, the reason why it's important to create a solid GDD is because there is a lot of value during making a game to have a clear reference of goals, inspirations, what are you trying to achieve, mechanics and interactions. Specially when in a team, it makes communication easier, reduces doubt, and makes for less reiterations needed One other tip that I'd like to give, is that when making a game for public testing, even is it's a prototype, make sure there are no or barely no soft locks. Right now the game doesn't handle the player falling off the map, or does anything upon completing level 2. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, even just sending the player back to spawn or to a main menu is enough, just try not to leave these situations in a public build because it makes it very hard to test the game, on top of giving it a bad look.

Summarise your game!
Goober is a 2d action platformer. The player controls an Alien or Artificial lifeform attempting to escape from a research facility. Carving a bloody path through the facility, Goober is far more dangerous than researchers first assumed with the ability to assimilate weaponry into his biomechanical form.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
Goober is a weapon in several respects, it is possible he is an artificial being that was developed to serve as a weapon for humanity. He is able to incorporate weaponry into his body and literally become different weapons like a blade or a laser cannon. Even just touching Goober is potentially fatal as he is strong enough to tear a human apart by just walking into them, and his unstable atomic structure causes catastrophic cranial rupture.
