  • Grass on Rust is a delightful little platformer with great Super Mario/Hollow Knight vibes. It was a true joy to play through, great job! The game movement mechanics were well developed and smooth, with a clear tutorial on how to use each mechanic (double jump/wall hang etc.). I did enjoy the enemies turning into trampolines upon defeat, making it necessary to judge where to kill an enemy. Visuals were superb with the moving clouds, the consistency of the style as levels progress My main feedback for the game revolves around the enemies; the main objective is currently to move from left to right. With enemy HP being 8 jumps to kill, you're spending more time taking care of those than moving forward. Additionally, adding a 'stun' action to limit getting shot while damaging the enemy might be good inclusion as theres no way to avoid damage while above the enemy. This can lead to feel bad scenarios as you've depleted player resources (hp) for no real gain beyond playing the game. Overall, great job! It was short but the core concepts were very well developed.

Summarise your game!
Grass On Rust is a side scroll platformer where players fight enemies by jumping or dashing towards them in certain positions, with a scrapbook-like aesthetic for the graphics

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
In this game the player is a character without weapons but must defeat enemy robots by dashing or stomping towards them, so the character is as their weapon itself,

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
button at the top left of the screen for on/off fullscreen,

this game was made completely solo by myself ๐Ÿฅฒ

What an unbelievably beautiful game jam entry, I love the style behind this so much. Its very pretty, and the music is great too! The movement feels pretty good, I feel this game could benefit from a better indicator of when you have a dash available, and or have the dash refresh when you hit the ground. Could improve the movement more than how good it already is. Very very good job, I wish you the best of luck in the jam! :)

And I really agree, now looking back at it I think it would be better if I just put the indicator on the side of the screen, also to immediately refresh the dash when landing, because even though the dash gives extra damage, player can still dash into the enemy's bullets that make it fail. Very helpful input, thank you

Well done. I wish there are mory story elements, I think it will fit perfectly in this kind of game (which is ironically opposite of what people usually do, put story in games which doesn't benefit from)

I actually wanted to include a little storyline and some other characters to meet, but I had to cut a lot of my original plans due to time limits.

Nice aesthetic, loved how the character looked kind of bored even though they are fighting weird robots and dashing around. Good work!

Thank you thank you ๐Ÿค—โค๐Ÿ™Œ

she was originally a character I created for my main project in pixel art form, where she was one of a quintuplet characters, which I then repurpose here by transformed it into non-pixel art
