I do believe (if I may be naïve
and boast confessing to my sin)
That my earlier post herein…
Expressed a sentiment of indignation
Which was unbecoming of my station;
Please allow for me (for now, to see
Its consummation) to articulate my
Case more carefully:
Outside of appeals
To religion, superstition,
Intuition and “Self-
Evidence”, it should be Common Sense:
That Justice just does not exist
In Nature except as pretense.
You see, then, why some heathen
Might inspire you to rightfully
Protest. But even as you do so
I must spitefully contest:
That once you violate these Laws
At the behest of your Ideals,
You also violate thy Cause,
For Justice simply isn’t how it feels.
Those very agents of enforcement
Represent the very force which you endorse.
And thus: barring appeals
to superstition, Your ambition
targets those Ideals
straight at their Source.
(Of course.)
And if you wish to know what Peace is,
Here’s my thesis, that:
Apart from its Department,
There’s no Justice on this Earth.
So if you start a riot,
Keep it quiet,
Lest it turn to be more trouble than its worth.
For just as blood has always flown
According to the structure of the bone
(except when it is spilt)
So we cannot uphold the old Ideals alone
Except within the stricture of the throne
Or otherwise by our own guilt.
And if you will it that the false of heart atone
For their departure from the snobbery of rules,
Remain within the arch of Law and Order
And contain your March within its every Border,
Lest it turn to nothing more than vain disorder
In a sea of mobbing, bobbing fools.
