Nice game, good ambiance. However I played to much at chess in the past, it's not as enjoying anymore, so I will give up on this lose :) .

I tried one last time.I was near to win 5 time in a game with the whites. However it's a lose.

Hey, Jack. Not bad getting so close to a win! Thanks for playing :-)

Developer

Hey, Jack. I've updated the chess AI to be easier to beat at the lowest difficulty setting. Setting the difficulty to 0% should  give you a win :-)

Thank you but I am too proud for that. What is the number of the previous difficulty? ;) The second and last try was epic I can stop on this lose. The graphisms and the ambiance are the really good point of your version of chess game. Do you will participate to the next practice Jam?

Developer

Hehe... No one will know. It can't hurt to notch up a few wins before trying more difficult levels.  The AI plays all random moves at difficulty level 0, but progressively gets better so that by level 20 it's back to intermediate level play. I start to run into trouble when playing at about level 15. Yes, I hope to participate in the next practice jam.

The graphics look really nice, love the hugging king and queen in the logo. It would have been nice to be able to click or do something with the background/ environment so it gets more meaning. Also a menu at the start would have been nicer. Felt a bit wear to pick the “map” and pieces while playing the game. Or did you do it on peruse so its a one screen game?

I do love the settings a lot and being able to chance the pieces. And i have to say the way i can move my pieces is fantastic. really liked it! was clear, easy to understand. The (check)mate red did disappear after clicking would be nice if its always on until you end your turn or something.

I’m really horrible at chess, i play so many boardgames but i never won a game of chess no idea why :P the AI in this game is very good, i was just doing something and all of a suddin my king was in trouble since the horse moved to the right position like it had a plan so very well done! really felt like an ai that was thinking about what to do and how to win! After the horse the queen came in so really felt great!

An other thing is that my computer got very slow for a bit when trying to chance the background like it was loading it in already or turning on an extra camera. i would just go for an image so its faster.
I would love to get a ton of feedback on my game so if you have any idea’s, tips, on whats missing or anything really that would be great! My game is not done at all there are many things i want to do still but the basics are there and its playable till the end :)

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'll definitely add your suggestions to the list of improvements. Yes, I did leave out the start screen on purpose since I wanted the player to be a able to start playing a game as quickly as possible. The game saves your choices so when you play again it automatically loads your last configuration. Thanks again for your feedback!

Hi. Thanks again for your great feedback. I've released a new build based on some of your suggestions. The location thumbnails are now images to improve performance when selecting locations. And I've updated the AI to be easier to beat for beginner levels. At the lowest difficulty setting the AI now plays completely randomly, becoming progressively less random with increasing difficulty, so hopefully it should be a lot easier to beat :-)

I'm such a bad chess player, I couldnt beat the easiest AI :( The 3d models, textures and backgrounds are great. This feels incredibly polished!

Developer(+1)

Thanks Sepi! I think I might need to make the easiest AI setting just play random legal moves to give bad chess players like us a chance ;-) Thanks for the feedback.

I just played the new easiest level. I will pretend its not doing completely random moves and that I am a mastermind chess genius lol. Those are a LOT of difficulty levels! I will try to increase the difficulty later, but so far it is a very solid chess game, very impresive.

Hi. I recorded your game on a video. I love it. I could not finish it because I am bad at chess. lol. However, the game is very fun.

Developer(+1)

Hi Vlad! Thanks for playing and for making the video :-)

I know I am no Hikaru Nakamura... but this game certainly humbled me. This is a beautifully polished game. The graphics and overall presentation left me excited to give this a try on my lunch break, and I was not disappointed. You did a very good job on this chess game! I will be back to play around with this one more soon and give you an update. I have a screenshot but it is embarrassing to you, and my entire family to see that shameful loss...

Thank you so much for submitting another wonderful gem into our game jam. Hope to continue to see you submitting again in the future! I really have enjoyed these last 2 back to back. Can't wait to see what is next!

Thanks for playing! I look forward to your victory :-)

Hi. I've updated the AI based on community feedback so that it is easier to beat at beginner levels. At the lowest difficulty setting the AI now plays completely randomly, becoming progressively less random with increasing difficulty. It should hopefully be easier now to notch up a few wins against the computer before advancing to more difficult levels :-)
