Gorgeous game with beautiful art and fantastic storytelling. Henri's character was difficult to crack, but not insanely so - it just felt realistic. Recommending it to all my friends ASAP.
oh the writing in this was exquisite. Not too fancy to the point of being overbearing, but just poetic and charming enough to feel fantastical, punctuating the story itself. I also quite enjoyed the non-linear narrative and how that was presented gameplay-wise
it's only february but i think i've found my favourite game of the year??? First off, congrats and thank you to the team who made this game possible...This game is a masterpiece and there is so much love poured into it. thanks for the guide as well!! One of the few times ive been moved enough to pursue each every route (and see what decisions i made that were wrong/negative according to the narrative).
I'd like to first address the gorgeous art, which is what drew me to the game. Im such a sucker for minimalist styles in color/shape and this style scratched an itch in my brain. And i am pleasantly surprised to find even more art within the game via the CGs. The artist is so skilled at creating impactful compositions and imbuing each character sprite with life. definitely a style id love to study!!
Secondly, the writing and narrative really captivated me. The writing, especially, felt like I was reading a novel and i love love love reading about people in romantic love; so any paragraph describing Julien and Henri in their tender/reflective moments made my kick my feet in delight. The writer did a great job in immersing me in the emotions and feelings of each character, even while switching between each character mid-talk, everything just flowed seamlessly.
In tandem with the writing, i was similarly taken by the narrative and how the story branched out. I love that each route (but especially the good/perfect score route) was substantially different in a good way. like...getting brownies for doing extra work. no ending felt like it was unsatisfying, even the early endings, and replaying it did not feel like a chore. On that tangent, as i mentioned previously i was delighted to see which options i made from my first play were considered negative and drove me away from the good route. that just made getting the good route even more satisfying for me because i was able to assess my thinking/justification of why i thought my first answers were the correct one. i noticed in the good ending route Julien and Henri were also more interested in the well-being of Adeline ( i joked to myself on my first route that they left all this marriage baggage to a poor little girl and wished they noticed her suffering too); which of course makes sense as it would lead them to forming a better bond and opens the option to become a family.
In conclusion, this was so worth my time and im glad i took the time to replay it and explore options/followed the guide. Everything about this game is stellar and i am going to recommend it to everyone i know!!
Thank you again for creating a lovely game!! I look forward to whatever you guys come up with next :D Cheers!!
I just thought it pretty neat. I liked the world-building even if it was a little bit vague and slightly too complicated towards the middle/end, but either way that seems to be the intention lol
