Thanks! Seeing as it's a fairly conventional platformer in terms of mechanics, I wanted to add some extra pizzazz to it with the story elements. The particle effects are there because particle effects are so much fun to code :) Amon Amarth seemed very apt for the tone of the game. :D
I love how fast everything feels, it's like all the best bits of a metroidvania with the fat trimmed off. I can see 'Honor the Spirit of Your Ancestors (Any %)' at next years GDQ.
Thanks! A lot of the speed probably came down to converting it to 60fps very late in development. Honor the Spirit of Your Ancestors would look great on a t-shirt. One of the parts I like about Metroid is managing your missiles and scavenging for ammo and health, so I suppose I must have been inspired by that. Plus, every Metroidvania under the sun is already doing the 'unlock new character abilities to explore further' thing.

i notices those Amon Amarth tunes right away! great game, the particle work is unique. Also, the way it narrates is a nice touch

IT'S REALLY GOOD
Love the presentation on this. The music is banging.
Thanks! I borrowed a couple of Amon Amarth riffs to get everything grooving along: 'Guardians of Asgard' and 'Twilight of the Thunder God'
