An excellent plot twist in the beginning! And I thought, why do my starting characters have 3K XP… The story is intriguing. And I like how it smoothly engages the player in the action. The combat was dynamic. It would be helpful to see some info about your opponents, if not their detailed stats, but at least the general estimation whenever the enemy is healthy or on the brink of death unless the lack of this information is part of the mechanics, of course. It took me a few times to understand that your decisions during the combat were time-limited. At least I had such an impression because when I thought a bit longer, enemies were starting to act. As a side note, I’ve got the impression that using a mass-effect spell is always a win if you have MP. These spells are way more effective than hitting enemies one by one in the current version and don’t take much mana. The characters look promising, and I would like to learn more about them. Interestingly, the line of sight effect helps bring more life to the environment. Everything feels more dynamic with it. Never thought of it from this perspective before.
This was awesome! The battle system felt really smooth. The sound, graphics, and music all created a really cohesive feel to it. I really enjoyed playing it! The enemies in the cave were surprisingly tough for a first dungeon. I ended up dying my first time through. The game was definitely reminiscent of nes games and the original Phantasy Star series!
A really solid RPG with a great attempt at the retro feel. Honestly felt like I was playin' on an NES or even a Sega Game Gear (especially where the sounds are concerned).
For what was showcased it feels pretty much complete in the gameplay department. I think the only thing I noticed was that when defeating an enemy that was apart of a varied crowd, the names in the bottom left column didn't update and were static... nothing extreme, and could be by design, but something to maybe look into.
As for the story, it's pretty serviceable for what's on offer at the moment, could definitely see it open up a whole lot more if you continue this project.
Overall, pretty solid entry for this Jam along with keepin' up with the optional theme. Good job!
