If you haven't read Ascension yet then you absolutely must, it is one of the best visual novels I have ever read.
The plot as a whole is fairly straightforward, but it's the small twists and details that make it so special. Each of the three characters are distinct in their personalities yet have incredible chemistry right from the get go; no matter who is interacting the bonds are deep and believable. And every character has more to them than meets the eye, reflected each of their heart-warming endings.
The artwork and soundtrack both work beautifully alongside the story, complimenting every moment. The photographic settings of the environment that are both eery and breathtaking help bring the zone to life, while each character design is expressive and colourful, vibrant enough to stand out while still feeling like a part of the world. The soundtrack meanwhile haunts the mind with earworm melodies and droning ambulance, bringing to mind games such as Pathologic while still having it's own unique flavour.
There aren't enough words to describe how excellent Ascension is, everybody involved should be incredibly proud of themselves and I eagerly look forward to seeing what else they create in the future.
