  • I enjoyed this a lot! I had around 130 games to judge, so I only got ending G2, but I do want to go back and get another. My biggest complaint would be just a single audio track that hurt my ears, otherwise you would have had a perfect 5/5 across the board from me. But I really did enjoy this and it felt like a better Mega Man experience than some Mega Man games.

How does your submission fit the jam's theme?
The game's levels get increasingly more corrupted visuals as you play more of them. Which ending you get depends on which stages were impacted the most by said corruption. The boss designs also use scrambled tiles from elsewhere in the game, the boss names are all garbled nonsense, and the boss's attacks use palettes that range from slightly to significantly wrong compared to the player's own versions of those same weapons.

I have only a limited sample size of four as I write this, but of the other submissions I've played, this is feels remarkably complete! A story, cohesive visuals, music, a scoring system, multiple endings... Wow! In my opinion, though, I didn't find the gameplay very engaging. I only played through it once, though, so I might give it another try! Maybe I'm just too tired right now.

Honestly, that's completely fair if you don't find the gameplay engaging enough. I know this game probably won't be for everyone, given I had only so much time to work with so I didn't have time for, say, dedicated difficulty settings or other such things that could've probably helped with appealing to a wider audience.

That being said, I wonder if you might be the sort of player I built the ranking system to be for. I tried to balance the game such that most people should be able to beat the game without too much trouble, for those who just want a simple almost Mario 1-ish sidescroller to run through while getting increasingly powerful in a power trip kind of way, but that getting a high rank is quite a lot harder and requires a lot more effort. Of course, the several endings thing and short length are both to try to encourage playing it enough times to start getting a feel for it.

Being tired could factor in too, of course. We'll see I guess! Feel free to share more thoughts if you play it again and have more complicated thoughts, positive or negative, afterwards. I'm definitely curious to hear more!
