Fun gameplay, awesome art style, but a couple of bugs can hurt the experience:
I am a fan of rpg type games, to be honest. And this game was definitely one of the rpg platformers of all time. I love the concept, and finding items and enemies in a fully realized level was really fun, and enjoyable. I really like how seamless the art felt and how fun it was to pick up the sword for the first time and going "Oh yes, now its my turn" after dying twice.
However, there were a few issues to note, that would better the experience overall. First, the platform seems a bit buggy to get on and off of, likely just a code.org limitation more than anything, but perhaps there's something to do about it! Another thing is that, although not a bug, it's quite annoying to sit for 5~ seconds on each screen. Maybe make space skip it? Finally, the controls were a bit hard to learn at first, and it was confusing on what does what, I almost got stuck on the main menu. Perhaps making controls easier to press, as Shield and Sword, for example, seem like wildly different keys.
Overall, I rate this game a 4/5!
Interesting, Dynamic, Jumpy, but lacks a bit of direction:
This game is great for those looking to play a puzzling type game with some sneaky elements. I enjoyed trying to avoid cameras and alarms while trying to find fuse boxes. The red alarms sometimes spooked me, aiding the factor of being stealthy.
However, the game is hard to get into, as knowing what to do or what is what is pretty confusing at times, and, it sometimes feels like trying I need to find the monster rather than it find me. Maybe making a system to put it near the player, or making random events that try attention during the fuse game could help build up the mood even more!
Overall, I give this game a 3/5!!
Unique gameplay, however, gets repetitive:
I love the concept for this game. The art is fun and fits the theme, and the audio is just great. The screaming is peak acting. However, the game quickly ends up getting repetitive, as summoning the same unit for 10 minutes is not ideal. Possibly adding a new set of units would for sure spice the game up!
Overall, I give this game a 3/5!
A fun, artistic, and unique experience, with a couple of quirks:
Let's start with the artstyle, because, how could I not jump straight to this; The art blends trippy elements with some retro styling, and the color palette pulls the game together. The gameplay is fun and unique, and it heavily reminiscent of games like Getting Over It, with music that pulls it all together.
There are some problems, however. Firstly, the music of the game can be way too loud, and can require large scale volume adjustments, which in turn throw off audio for other open applications. A volume slider, or mute music button would be a nice quality of life addition.
Secondly, I could not get this game to run on 3 devices with 3 different controllers. I tested this game on 2 various laptops, and 1 macbook, with 3 different XBOX One controllers from different eras (One, Series X, Series S) with all available connection options. The game just would not be able to get past the first screen, even when reloading/restarting/fullscreen. It was odd. This could easily drive players away. I was only able to play by going to someone else's home who had managed to get it to work, after some finagling. An easy solution would be to add Keyboard + Mouse actions. However, a harder but more on theme would be to trouble shoot why it won't work.
Overall, I give this game a 4/5!
Fun, Unique, but with some quirks that can hurt the playerbase.
Game is great, however, there is a host of issues I ran into:
This game is a fun idea for a platformer, and it's pretty fun, however, despite the combat system and collection systems being fun, there was a host of issue that caused this game to be somewhat hard to get into.
The first of these is that whenever I swing the sword at an enemy, the detection almost happens a second after, which causes the enemies to still hit me after I kill them.
The second is that, sometimes, when transitioning between two rooms, the camera and/or the character doesn't follow, which causes the game to softlock and become unplayable.
Lastly, The character seems to get stuck on cubes sometimes, which causes the game to softlock.
The art is fun and creative, and the idea is in great faith, however the execution isn't always there throughout, which makes it really difficult to play.
Overall, I give this game a 2/5!
Give this game a try for sure everyone!!!!!
Game is good and unique, however:
In the city level, the house is confusing, with it being hard to tell where platforms are at, as well as generally being stuck and unable to jump on the roof. The artstyle is really nice and is the biggest strength of the game, however, some lack of shadows can make it hard to pinpoint where you will land or where some enemies are.
I really enjoyed fighting the boss, and I like how he has 2 move sets! The city level, up until the house, was amazing with good design. It could benefit from more enemies present!
Overall 3/5 Game! Great work!
