Any way to use this on a large iPad without hardware keyboard? I’m stuck at “press any key” to begin as there is no visible keyboard onscreen and seems to be no way to engage one.

Sorry, I'm afraid my game wasn't designed to be played without a keyboard. I've just pushed an update that should pop up a virtual keyboard when you touch the screen. If possible, I still recommend playing with a hardware keyboard or on a computer.
No problem. Keyboards can be hard. I have a caveat in my game’s instructions about using a real keyboard but I thought since it seemed perhaps you built your own engine that you might have a bit more flexibility to actually solve the problem than I do. :)
I have the flexibility but so far I've lacked the motivation. 😅
