  • GRAND is a lengthy and complex Interactive Fiction novel. Gameplay-wise, it is very simple: pressing numbers that correspond to a choice. It can be understood alright and is implemented fairly well. With originality, there are many other interactive fiction novels so this doesn’t stand out from them, but it still has a completely original story and gameplay. For fun, I find it to be not fun at times because the story does not pull you in and there are moments where you feel your choices do not make any impact. According to the developer, Lin Ji, this game uses all of the optional themes set for the Text-Based Game Jam. For timeframe, this game was completed shortly before the start of this game jam (I assume). For ASCII Art, GRAND uses it very rarely and it is not integrated within the gameplay. Overall, GRAND is a long-winded, complicated Interactive Fiction novel with many different endings and branches; it might be interesting to an avid Interactive Fiction reader, but for the average gamer, this might not be very fun. It uses vocabulary excellently, but sometimes it is too verbose.

Hi there! You might've already heard by the time you see this message but there was recently an issue with a renegade moderator in the Full Moon Jam server, and 90% of our population was kicked. The issue has been dealt with but now we're trying get back our friends! We would love to have you back if you'd be interested https://discord.gg/GzhHm2

If you're getting this and you're still in the server, or you never were in the first place, my apologies

This is actually fairly good feedback. You more or less echoed my own apprehensions about this project. Be that as it may, I stand by my work, only because of the tremendous spiritual ordeal I had to surmount in order to produce this work, coupled with the felt need to do so, which had haunted me for years. I believe that readers who take their time to appreciate GRAND for what it is will also be transformed; your qualms are no different, in essence, from my own frustrations with its development. I know that my (approach to) work makes matters difficult for both myself and others. Yet I feel that it is rewarding for the sort of mind that enjoys literature and derives its life from books. Having mastered at least one dimension of this medium, I feel more flexible in my aspirations to entertain as well as I educate. Your review was very fair. All I needed was to be heard and to know that the message was received.

Hi, Lin Ji. As the jam host, I've released a survey that I want everyone doing this jam to complete. It basically asks a few questions about your game and how you enjoyed your jam. https://forms.gle/q8uFczU4mu4ANUXRA. It helps the judges understand your game better so the judging process can become easier. Much appreciated.

Please note that I have sent this survey on Discord and through Email as well, so if you have already completed it please ignore this. Thanks and have a good day :)

I ought to make this quite clear:

1. the game WAS produced largely within a two-week period.

2. it IS entirely text-based.

3. I submitted this to another Game Jam only because I did not know about TH!S Game Jam.
