wonderrful
Wow, this was just hilarious fun the whole way though. The game makes no attempt to take itself seriously and is all the better for it. The art and writing really punctuate this aesthetic. I especially appreciate how the game chides you for using continues, but doesn't penalize you so you can just jump right back into the action.
This is my pick for the best of the jam.
Enjoy this game a lot, I love how the fairies work as a "Rings of Sonic" mechanic, allowing you to stay alive in a lot of waves. Great art and music!
This game is so perfect in its imperfections. Y'all are just here to make a game and have it be fun and not care about anything else, and that's great. The little things like the corpses tilting as you move, the big things like the behemoth you become when you have lotsa little fairies. It's all great. And fun and colorful and clever. I also really like how the fairy mechanic doubles sort of like sonic rings and lets you maintain yourself in a tricky situation by grabbing them back, so the forgiveness excuses the handful of janky bullet spreads (lookin' at you, "I'm so done").
Ok but nitpick corner: obviously the game was rough around the edges bc you guys just wanted to make more interesting and varied stuff, so i cant pick on it for everything, but some stuff held it back. For one thing the bosses became a real lame duck situation when you inevitably lose your fairies. Imo they should've had minions or some other way to replenish your ammunition. Maybe that's not perfect, but the way it is the bosses felt too disconnected from the core gameplay, even though they were all fun spectacles. Also your hitbox is way too low on your sprite and made it confusing to switch from normal to focused modes. The fairies themselves could also use some really obvious indicators that they could be picked up, like a big outline or just having them flash like crazy, because I didn't realize the ones floating through space were pickupable for a while. And the hitbox for them should've cover Orin's entire sprite instead of her core hitbox. Also audio design could be a thing, I know y'all dont have time for everything with the sheer size of this game but that was the most blatantly lacking and could've made some Ultra Catharsis. And the only flaw I would call toxic behavior is having the friendly bullets sometimes be drawn over the enemy ones. I CAN'T SEE.
Anyway, had fun, thank you for this addition to the world.
Very cute and derpy game, I like.
I've probably found my favourite game so far. I love the humour, the artwork is great, the music fits wonderfully.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that Rin's sprite hid bullets, and the hitbox is not near the center of the sprite; so many hits because it's so much further down than I expect or just not seeing the bullet.
(Also had some frame issues, but that's probably because too many corpses produce too many bullets and I'm playing it in browser)
Some strange hitboxing with the Yama's beam blast but I had fun! OTKR with the game!
The visuals and presentation are incredibly polished, with a lot of attention to detail. The running animation and the tipping corpse piles are very amusing to look at. My only criticisms are the lack of sound (but the music is nice) and the lack of clarity when trying to distinguish between your own bullets and enemy bullets
We've been having the bad habit of only thinking about the SFX when there's less than 4 hours left for the past two jams.
for the second time in a row yours is probably my favorite, nice work
