That extra hour you put into this game was worth it - really enjoyable time (and yeah, what the others said about this bringing a nostalgic Flash feeling). And yeah, standard use of the theme, but it's executed well.

Really nice job. Reminds me of the older flash games made by someone like 2kliksphilip. Really enjoy the handmade feel, though the sounds of the monster could probably use some work though. In general the audio is the biggest weakness of this, overall a nice short game.

Great job for the time frame! My only negative point is that the character feels a little too slow, otherwise this is very impressive and fantastically executed!

Thanks :) Yeah I felt the character was too slow too but I kept trying to find a happy balance and couldn't find it. I wanted to implement a dash but didn't get a chance to.
