Hi! During the last VRChat jam, here's some of the things I learned (or regret). Maybe it'll be of use to you!
- Build and test early, especially if you use CyanEmu or do multiplayer interactions.
- Keep backups! Nothing hurts more than accidently breaking your world a day before the deadline.
- Plan several days for polishing your world. It's better to have a simple but functional world, instead of something amazing but broken.
- Don't spend too much time on your itch.io page, it probably won't get many visits.
- Think about the sort of world you want to make. Is it just a proof of concept or a prototype? Work as messy as you want. Is it something you'd like to work on in the future? Consider working more cleanly.
- Get your world into a playable state as soon as possible. Don't get hung up on small details instead of finishing the jam. (such as reading / writing itch.io posts)
- Take breaks, stay healthy!! It's just a game jam. Take it easy, have fun.
- Ask question if you're struggling. Most VRChat world creators are very kind, and there's lots of smart people on the Discord.
- You don't need to be original, you don't need to make a magnum opus. It's OK to use stock assets.
- Don't feel discouraged if you feel like your world's overshadows by another entry. It's not a competition! We're all winners!
