These tips and advice are observed and taken from previous jams.
1. Keep the game simple
You might have heard of this tip a million times before, but I still have to state it here because it is so important and has been ignored by so many game jammers. While it's tempting to try and create a complex game during the jam, remember that your primary goal is to create a playable game. Focus on creating a game with a solid core mechanic, rather than trying to cram in too many features.
2. Upload a browser game
Although this is not a requirement, it is still highly recommended for you to do so. Nobody wants to spend 1 minute downloading a 20MB file made in 1 week, only to use it for 5 minutes.
3. Be creative with the theme
Don't feel constrained by the theme. Use it as a jumping-off point to create a unique game that showcases your creativity and skills. Interpret the theme in a way that is meaningful to you, and don't be afraid to take risks.
4. Don't submit at the last minute
Submitting your game early is a good way to avoid last-minute bugs and technical issues. Aim to submit your game at least an hour before the deadline, giving yourself plenty of time to troubleshoot and make final adjustments.
5. Be active in the community
Want your games to be played by other jammers? Participating in the community is a great way to get your game noticed. Post regular updates about your game, provide feedback and support to others, and play and rate games submitted by other jammers. By engaging with the community, you can create a buzz around your game and increase the chances of it being played by others.
you can join our discord server as the theme will be announced there as well.
If you cannot join the discord server due to restrictions then you can come back to this itch.io page moments after the jam starts. This itch.io page will be updated with the theme included.
