I have implemented a distance system but it miss a Ui message to keep player in touch if he is too far for fishing so if you are too far nothing will happen and you won't be notify of it i am sorry for the inconvenience.
Also, there is a little timer (5 secondes ) before the bar appears to make an effect like player is fishing and don't catch a fish right when you click on the gray tiles.
