Aha! Finally found out how to cross the gap! Just stand on the cube and pick it up. Jump and move while looking down at the cube to fly! I didn't get what to do with the gears box tho.
You just walk towards the end of one of the tunnels, there's a teleporter that brings you back outside where you deliver the parts to the spaceship and complete the game
