"Guy" is gendered, not neutral. It's masculine/refers to maleness via masculinity. People tend to conflate common or comfortable slang as being neutral when it just reflects the dominant narrative and status quo: we live under patriarchy, so "male" and "masculinity" are the default hegemonic markers. Default ≠ neutral; it just means erasure of the subordinated. (Meaning, chiefly, females.)
