well, a bit of an unnecessary spoiler, but yes, don't save thane at the very beginning to play the 4th route, the only route where you can spare selye, fairly different from the others too.
That naga route is the one of 2 ways to have very powerful weapon but it not fair to do that
Each route has its own rewards, and it's useful only if you go for a full strength playstyle (which won't always be optimal).
