Local split screen has been tested with some success, it still remains to be seen how it will work out with networking once all the mechanics are in. it is being looked into but primary focus of development is the single player experience.
I don't know, but this version won't be updated anymore, the pinned comment at the top has a link to the steam page, you can play the demo free and request the playtest for free.
